On May 20, the 2025 “World Metrology Day” China main event—hosted by the State Administration for Market Regulation and organized by the Guangdong Administration for Market Regulation and China Southern Power Grid—was held in Guangzhou. WISDOM was invited to attend the launch ceremony as a collaborating organization of the initiative “Connecting Everything Through Measurement — Open-Source Ecosystems Empowering the Digital Transformation of Metrology to Support New-Quality Productive Forces.”

       The 26th “World Metrology Day” is themed “Metrology: Meeting the Needs of the Times, Responding to the Expectations of the People.” The event highlights the core role of metrology—measurement science—in ensuring a globally coordinated measurement system. It emphasizes the essential function of metrology in meeting the demands of social and economic development and addressing public concerns, particularly in the context of digitalization, intelligence, and green transformation. The event also carries special historical significance: May 20, 2025 marks not only the 26th “World Metrology Day,” but also the 150th anniversary of the signing of the Metre Convention and the 70th anniversary of the International Organization of Legal Metrology (OIML), adding deeper historical and contemporary value to the occasion.

       During the event, 13 organizations—including China Southern Power Grid, the China Metrology Association, Huawei, and WISDOM—jointly signed the initiative “Connecting Everything Through Measurement—Open-Source Ecosystems Empowering the Digital Transformation of Metrology to Support New-Quality Productive Forces.” This initiative aligns with the strategic direction outlined in China’s 14th Five-Year Plan and the 2035 Long-Range Objectives, which calls for supporting the development of digital technology open-source communities and collaborative innovation entities. It also responds to the policy requirements of the Metrology Development Plan (2021–2035) issued by the State Council, aiming to accelerate the formation of an open, collaborative, and innovation-driven digital metrology development framework.
